TL;DR all gear reviews are moving to the River Surf Lab!

Since I started SUP for the Soul five years ago, I’ve learned a few things…

People want to read about gear! All of my review blog posts consistently get more traffic compared to any other type of content. I’ve tried posting about trip reports, safety, location beta, how-tos, photo spreads, accident reports, and videos… but nothing gets near the amount of reads as the reviews do.

I enjoy writing about gear. Comparing boards and figuring out what works best on river waves is super fun. Writing about that knowledge is rewarding, and I feel it’s my biggest contribution to the river surfing community.

The future for river surfing involves more than just SUP. In the past five years, shortboarding on the rivers has exploded. New waves that are designed for shortboarding are popping up every season. If it isn’t true already, very soon there will be more shortboarders surfing rivers than there are paddle boarders.

Given these things I’ve decided to start the River Surf Lab. A site dedicated to river surf gear reviews and comparisons. It isn’t focused on just SUP river surfing, but also shortboarding.

SUP for the Soul will continue to exist. However updates might be few and far between, as I will focus most of my energy on the River Surf Lab.

Thanks for all your support over the years and I hope you’ll join me over at the River Surf Lab!
