Black Bear hole in Lyons is in my opinion the best beginner river surf wave in the Front Range. It’s a small hole, that can be surfed on almost any size board. It has an easy, autoloading eddy and a safe runout.

The flooding in the fall of 2013 changed the hole a bit and there’s still some debris, but it’s pretty much the same hole as before. Here’s a quick video from Saturday:
